Cyclobenzaprine Flexeril: Dosage & Side Effects
Cyclobenzaprine Flexeril: Dosage & Side Effects
Abrupt cessation of treatment after prolonged administration rarely may produce nausea, headache, and malaise. Reproduction studies have been performed in rats, mice and rabbits at doses up to 20 times the human dose, and have revealed no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to cyclobenzaprine. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Tricyclic antidepressants have been reported to produce arrhythmias, sinus tachycardia, prolongation of the conduction time leading to myocardial infarction and stroke. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment with Flexeril. It is unknown if Flexeril passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby.
More on Flexeril
Fexmid is a brand name tablet that comes in a 7.5 mg tablet. Amrix is an extended-release capsule that can be taken once daily in a 15 mg – 30 mg dose. Many treatment programs offer medical detoxification to address physical dependence in a safe environment with caring physicians and nurses who will work to alleviate symptoms and increase your comfort. Post-detox, treatment will center around counseling and behavioral therapy (both individual and group) to uncover the maladaptive beliefs and behaviors that promote substance use and to develop new coping mechanisms that support recovery.
- The safety profile of VLD CBP compared favorably to that of placebo and the types of TEAE observed in this study were relatively consistent with those reported in the Flexeril (immediate-release CBP) product label.
- Do not take this drug for more than 3 weeks without talking to your doctor.
- TABLE 3 gives a summary of possible alternatives.17 For patients with lower back pain, it is important to understand that most pain resolves on its own and does not require medical treatment.
- Getting high on Flexeril is kind of like being on a vacation.
- Hyperpyretic crisis seizures, and deaths have occurred in patients receiving cyclobenzaprine (or structurally similar tricyclic antidepressants) concomitantly with MAO inhibitor drugs.
Treatment with Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride and any concomitant serotonergic agents should be discontinued immediately if the above reactions occur and supportive symptomatic treatment should be initiated. If concomitant treatment with Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride and other serotonergic drugs is clinically warranted, careful observation is advised, particularly during treatment initiation or dose increases (see PRECAUTIONS, DRUG INTERACTIONS). A post-marketing surveillance program was carried out in 7607 patients with acute musculoskeletal disorders, and included 297 patients treated with cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride tablets 10 mg for 30 days or longer. The overall effectiveness of cyclobenzaprine was similar to that observed in the double-blind controlled studies; the overall incidence of adverse effects was less (see ADVERSE REACTIONS).
People will abuse cyclobenzaprine to enhance the effects of alcohol or mind-altering drugs. As a result, the cyclobenzaprine high can actually end up leading to the development of addictions to other drugs as well. There are over 12,000 people in the U.S who will go to the emergency room looking to be treated for Flexeril overdose. A study showed that 209 people who overdosed on Flexeril on its own survived the ordeal. Mixing the drug with other substances, however, has shown to cause accidents leading to death.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor. The FDA recommends cautious use of cyclobenzaprine in patients with a history of urinary retention and glaucoma or other eye problems.
Cyclobenzaprine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so. Elderly patients seem to tolerate cyclobenzaprine less and may develop hallucinations as well as significant anticholinergic side effects, such as sedation. The use of significant lower dosing schedules in elderly patients may be prudent. These factors may affect how you should use this medication. A side effect is an unwanted response to a medication when it is taken in normal doses. Side effects can be mild or severe, temporary or permanent.

Polydrug abuse can cause serious harm, especially when the combination includes CNS depressing substances such as benzodiazepines and alcohol. Using drinks containing alcohol can increase your risk of dizziness, drowsiness, and decreased alertness from cyclobenzaprine. Call your doctor or local poison control center immediately if you have an allergic reaction. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if your symptoms are severe.

Cyclobenzaprine is a centrally acting skeletal-muscle relaxant, claimed to be effective in providing relief of muscle spasm, pain and tenderness, and in reducing the limitations imposed thereby on normal daily activities. It is structurally similar to the tricyclic antidepressants and adverse effects similar to those seen with the tricyclic antidepressants are therefore to be expected. Skeletal muscle relaxants are often prescribed for musculoskeletal conditions including low back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and myofascial pain syndrome.
Laboratory tests with values that became clinically significantly abnormal after drug administration were repeated until the values returned to normal or the etiology was identified and the sponsor notified. Laboratory determinations were performed by a central laboratory, MDS Pharma Services, Toronto. FM is a flexeril.live chronic condition punctuated by exacerbations (or flares) with variable severity of symptoms. The most common adverse reactions to cyclobenzaprine are somnolence, dry mucous membranes, dizziness, and confusion. Less commonly, tachycardia, dysarthria, disorientation, and hallucinations have been reported [2].
